Roderic Barrett

Roderic Barrett: Middle Aged Man 1983

The tutor who most influenced my thinking whist at the RA was Roderic Barrett. He was a very sensitive teacher and he seemed to be able to talk to all students with the same intensity even though his own paintings differed markedly from the work he was discussing. I remember that his advice was always focussed on how I could make my work better. It was always positive, and he used specific formal examples of colour or composition to make a point.

I have recently looked again at his paintings and they interest me even more now.
