at West Kirby Arts Centre


Classes are taught by Joe McGillivray who has been teaching at degree level in Art Schools for over 30 years.

Joe was previously head of the Art School at Wirral Met College, and latterly Director of Higher Education and Arts. Joe was a graduate of Manchester Art School and a post graduate student at the Royal Academy of Art, London. He has won prizes for his drawings and his paintings and his work is in public and private collections both nationally and internationally.




Still Life Drawing & Painting

An introductory course into drawing and painting that focuses on practising representational painting and drawing skills.

Painting Techniques & Ideas

A course that will produce art work in response to specific projects, moving to more individually inspired paintings and drawings later in the year.

Painting Challenge #1

This is a course that requires a painterely response to pictorial challenges. The course will be run over 4 x 3 week blocks each presenting different artistic propositions to students.

Figure Drawing & Painting

This course is about acquiring and developing traditional drawing and painting techniques to capture a likeness or attitude to the figure.

Dates & Times

The courses are every Monday starting from 20th September 2021 for 12 weeks (with a half term break).

£15 per 2 hour session or book the whole 12 week course for £165

All the classes take place in West Kirby Arts Centre, 29 Brookfield Gardens, West Kirby, Wirral CH48 4EL.

The centre is on Brookfield Terrace, opposite the White Lion and Concourse, and is a recently refurbished church which has a fabulous light and a welcoming atmosphere. It is easily accessible by bus, train and car, with parking close at West Kirby Concourse.
